The College of Veterinary and Animal Science, Jodhpur is a constituent college of Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (RAJUVAS) Bikaner, situated near Netra Toll Plaza on Jodhpur-Nagaur National Highway. It is 41 km away from the main city. Institutes of National Repute such as IIT, Rural AIIMS, NIFT and Ayurved University are located in the vicinity of 10-12 km only. The premises of the college are spread over an area of 80 bighas (20 hectares) of land. The foundation laying stone of this veterinary college building was laid by Shri. Kalraj Mishra, Hon’ble Governor, Rajasthan State and Chancellor, RAJUVAS, Bikaner on 10 June 2021. This college is the first veterinary college of Marwar region of Rajasthan and it has been established with the aim to develop the human resources in the field of Veterinary Science.
Presently, this college has established the Departments required for teaching of Ist and IInd year B.V.Sc. and A.H. along with the Veterinary Clinical Complex and Livestock Farm Complex as per MSVE 2016 (VCI Regulations). The Livestock and Poultry birds will be soon procured under LFC. Outreach clinical services have been started. Further, separate hostels for boys and girls, staff quarters etc has also been constructed and furnished. The main building also possess 3 lecture halls, a double storied library building, 4 examination halls, a spacious canteen, seminar halls, committee rooms and administrative sections.
Veterinary Clinical Complex is running in Shalihotra Bhawan. LFC Building is named as Kamdhenu Bhawan. Buildings of Boys and Girls Hostels are also named upon the great personalities, Boys hostel as Swami Vivekanand Bhawan and Girls Hostel as Bhagini Nivedita Bhawan. These buildings have been inaugurated by Hon’ble Governor of Rajasthan Shri Karaj Mishra Ji on 29th July 2024.
The hostel facilities for boys and girls consist of spacious, well ventilated and furnished rooms, dining area and washrooms facility. A total of 17 rooms with triple seated capacity and a dining hall have been constructed in both the hostels till now and more rooms will be constructed in near future. A total of four staff quarters are ready for faculty members. An auditorium for cultural activities and the play ground for sports activities of the students will also be constructed in the college campus in the near future. The institution is also planning to develop a central instrumentation facility (CIF) at the college campus to support research and academic development activities. The free land available in the college premises will be used for sports complex and fodder production.
The departments of college, primarily the Department of Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry, Department of Veterinary Anatomy, Department of Livestock Production Management, Department of Animal Nutrition, Department of Veterinary Pathology, Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Department of Animal Genetics and Breeding are having equipments and instruments as per MSVE 2016. The others departments of the college will be developed in coming years. These include Departments for teaching of IIIrd and IVth B.V.Sc. & A.H. such as Department of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology, Department of Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology, Department of Veterinary Parasitology, Department of Livestock Products Technology, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Department of Veterinary Medicine and Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics.
The veterinary clinical complex consists of five sections viz. Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosis and Ambulatory section. In the near future the advanced diagnostic facilities like X-ray, ultra-sonography, endoscopy etc. will also be made available for advanced diagnosis. Under livestock farm complex (LFC) animal houses for different livestock species such as cattle, buffalo, sheep, goat and poultry are almost complete. This livestock farm complex will also be used for instructional demonstration of livestock management in a precise way. The animals will be procured in very near future.
Presently, CVAS, Jodhpur has 34 faculty members including 16 Assistant Professors, 01 Assistant Librarian and one Dean. Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Sharma is the founder Dean of this college. The opening of this college will give impetus to the overall development of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry in the Marwar Region of Rajasthan State.
