Directorate of Extension Education

The Directorate of Extension Education is the nodal agency of Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bikaner for promoting livestock development in the State through quick transfer of livestock and poultry related technologies, providing scientific trainings, advisories and forecasting of disease outbreaks and their prevention for the benefit of farmers. There are three main activities of Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bikaner that is education, research and extension. Out of these, Extension Education helps farmers to increase livestock productivity through adoption of innovations for better economy. Extension Education is one of the pillars of the University and working for the technology transfer to the farming communities through its various programmes. The main function of Directorate of Extension Education is to plan, coordinate, organize and guide the extension education programmes in the University and to ensure efficient working of the extension education activities in close coordination with the development departments, voluntary and private organizations. Moreover, this Directorate encourages, guides and supports the extension education centers of the University to organize different extension education activities for the benefit of the farming community. Under the aegis of Directorate of Extension Education, the work of the field extension is mainly carried out through University’s colleges, Krishi Vighyan Kendra (KVK), Pashu Vigyan Kendras (PVKs) and centers sanctioned under State plan for the livestock, dairy, poultry and fish farmers. These centers imparting skill based training for strengthening the entrepreneurial activities in the rural areas.
Therefore, the role of Directorate is two folds, i.e. transfer of technologies from scientists to the ultimate users, i.e. farmers through field functionaries and to find out the problems of the field to be passed on to various research divisions of University for solutions. It also involves organization of animal treatment & infertility treatment camps, farmers training, exhibition, farmers- scientist interaction, front-line demonstration etc. For strengthening the extension activities, various programmes are being implemented through projects sponsored from the agencies like ICAR, RKVY, ATMA and other government and non-government organizations. Use of traditional and modern technology transfer for effective outreach is the prime objective of the University.
The Directorate also extends its support to the State Animal Husbandry Department by publishing literature on different disciplines of veterinary and allied sciences. Thus, three principal functional areas of the Directorate of Extension Education, RAJUVAS are training, advisory and communication.

Broad Objectives

• To formulate and impart in-service training to different categories of officers and functionaries
  from line departments of Government of Rajasthan and Non- Government Organizations.
• To conduct short and long duration vocational trainings for farmers, farm women, youth and school dropouts of the State.
• To assess and refine the latest Animal Husbandry technologies through front-line demonstrations for their wider adoption.
• To provide farm information services through various extension activities including literature for quick dissemination of technology.
