Fundamentals of Veterinary Ophthalmology

Overview
Ophthalmology is a subject that vets often struggle with in both small and large animal
practice. This training programme is designed for Veterinary practitioners and post-graduate
students to develop diagnostic skills and get essential practical tips on correct ophthalmoscope
use and how to perform a basic eye examination. The training will impart confidence and the
knowledge of the ongoing management of eye diseases in veterinary field.
Objectives
 To enhance the knowledge of a step-by-step approach to ocular examination.
 An overview of diagnosis of diverse ocular affections in large and small animals.
 To develop confidence on decision making and current medical and surgical options
available for treatment of ophthalmic affections in large and small animals.
Small Animal Ophthalmology (3 days)
Day-1
1. Basics of Diagnostic ophthalmology in Dogs
2. Management of Ocular emergencies in small animals and their critical care
Day-2
1. Diagnosis and classification of cataract in dogs.
2. Surgical Management of Cataract in Dogs
Day-3
1. Surgico-therapeutic management of common ophthalmic disorders in dogs.
2. Anesthetic protocol for ophthalmic surgery, emergency, complications and their
management
Large Animal Ophthalmology (2 days)
Day-4
1. Basic Diagnostic Techniques for ocular examination in large animal Practice
2. Diverse Ophthalmological affections in Cattle-Diagnosis and their Surgical
Management
Day-5
1. Cataract surgery and its management in large animals.
2. Diverse Ophthalmological affections in large animals -Diagnosis and their Surgical
Management
