National Services Scheme(N.S.S.)

In order to inculcate the spirit of community service amongst students, there are two NSS units of RAJUVAS functional at CVAS, Bikaner and Navania (Udaipur). Each Unit has one Programme Officer and 100 volunteers. These units are administratively controlled by one Programme Coordinator at the university level. Dean Students Welfare generally works as the Programme Coordinator for the University. The NSS units have regular programmes as well as a special camp every year in the adopted villages where NSS volunteers undertake social work, like awareness to parents to avoid female foeticide, so that natural balance of gender is maintained, awareness against drugs-abuse and smoking; adult and child education; mother and child care; health, hygiene, cleanliness, cleaning of village well/ponds; awareness against HIV/AIDS; pulse polio campaign; voter awareness programme; literacy programme; free plantation; blood donation; talks on water conservation and many more activities focused on social and rural upliftment. The NSS volunteers undertake social work in and around a college campus for 3 hours for 40 days in a year. The NSS volunteers of this University also help in organizing camps for treatment of animals in the adopted villages during special camps along with experts of the University. The NSS units organize the regular activities as detailed below:

1. An orientation of NSS Volunteers: To get the NSS volunteers well acquainted with the basics of NSS programmes, 20 hours are allocated for their orientation through lectures, discussions, field visits etc.
2. Campus work: The NSS volunteers are involved in the projects undertaken for the benefit of the institution and the students concerned. Such projects cover the development of playgrounds, laying of gardens, massive tree plantation in the college premises, awareness programme on drug abuse, AIDS, No smoking, population education, Gender Awareness and other projects. The NSS volunteers work on campus for not exceeding 30 hours in a year.
3. The remaining 70 hours are utilized for community service on the projects in adopted villages independently or in collaboration with others in this field, as mentioned below:
   • Institutional work: The NSS volunteers are assigned with duties to work with selected voluntary organizations working for the welfare of women, protection of baby foeticide, blood donation, pulse polio campaign, children and aged citizens outside the campus.
   • Rural upliftment work: NSS volunteers provide their services in the adopted village for eradication of illiteracy, health, hygiene, nutrition, sanitation, mother and child care, family planning, gender justice, small savings drive, construction of rural roads/well, campaign for voter awareness, campaign against social evils, like dowry, female foeticide etc. and many more activities focused on social upliftment.
   • NSS units of this university also undertake extension work & treatment of animals in the villages during special camps.

4. A 7- days special camp is organized in the adopted village on the specified project designed by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt, of India and NSS Cell, Higher and Technical Education, Govt, of Rajasthan.
